MAP Testing Print
Friday, February 19 2010 14:31
During the weeks of March 8th through March 26th, 2010, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress TM (MAP). The purpose of MAP tests is to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading and math. Your child will be taking the tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the next few days, your child will spend a total of about two hours over a two day period completing these tests. Each building has set up their own testing schedules. If you are interested in finding out when your child will be tested, please check with your child’s principal.

Each school year, students in grades 3-10 will take the tests in September, January, and May. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. This report will also give recommendations for improvement that you can help with at home. We have had three second grade classrooms volunteer to take part in the MAP for Primary Grades during this pilot year. Parents of those students will also receive a report showing their child’s growth and recommendations for ways in which the home-school connection can be strengthened.

Before we begin full implementation of MAP testing in March, your child will be informed of what MAP is and what they will be expected to do. We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn allows parents and teachers to have a profound positive effect on the lives of children.

Please check our website www.dixonschools.org for a new section on MAP testing that will be updated periodically as we embark on this new endeavor.
