If you have any questions or comments about the movement of the 5th grade from Reagan Middle School to Jefferson please feel free to email us at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

What will happen with the newly created 5-8 grade cross country team? Will 5th graders not be included now?  What will happen with beginning 5th grade band?

There are no plans to change 5th grade participation in athletics or intramurals.  I spoke with Mr. Gould and he believes we will have an area for Band practice and to store instruments, we would need to work through the scheduling details

I realize the budget issues we are facing in our district and costs must be cut. I also realize it is not cost effective to have a class size of 15-20 students, however I do not see how it would save money if the class sizes were all equal but the material or pace of the classes were different. Why would it cost more to "track" children to their abilities? The children who have been part of the challenge program so far should continue in some manner that program. My daughter for example is in 4th grade challenge. She has completed the 5th grade math curriculum. Are you then saying that if this program is cut she would essentially repeat an entire year's curriculum? I know changes must be made and most parents I talk to are willing to compromise. I hope you will take into consideration what is best for our special needs children - _all _of our special needs children- when making your final decisions.

Regarding the Challenge program we have not said anything other that we would like to see how it impacts class size. I have heard the comments about students repeating all the same work again. That does not seem like a wise educational practice and one I could not support. The educators of this district have been and will remain committed to providing an educational experience that is challenging for all students.

Dixon Public Schools, in cooperation with the community, will provide students with a comprehensive educational program that produces well-educated, self-sufficient, and involved citizens.
