Partnership Committee Awards over $15,000 in grants to DPS Teachers/Coaches/Sponsors

The Partnership Committee, a sub-committee of the Dixon Public School Board of Education, has awarded the 2009-2010 Partnership grants that are funded by the Corporate Sponsorship program.  The Partnership Committee funds projects and/or activities that involve extra-curricular and co-curricular projects.  Congratulations to all staff whose grant request was awarded.

Gifted Program Meeting Print

Recently the Administration met on two consecutive evenings with concerned students, parents and staff members.  The purpose was to discuss the status of the Gifted Program and how it would be affected by the budget reductions for next year.  

During the meeting, the Board Policy and the State guidelines for Gifted Education was discussed (Click here to read more about the local and State guidelines for the Gifted Program), the fact that Gifted Education has not been funded by the State since before the 2006-07 school year, the history of the Dixon Challenge Program (the local name for the gifted program), grades 3-8 program eligibility, the District’s current practice, and the future of the program.  Much of the concern centered around the belief that the program was going to be eliminated.

What will happen with the newly created 5-8 grade cross country team? Will 5th graders not be included now?  What will happen with beginning 5th grade band?

There are no plans to change 5th grade participation in athletics or intramurals.  I spoke with Mr. Gould and he believes we will have an area for Band practice and to store instruments, we would need to work through the scheduling details

I realize the budget issues we are facing in our district and costs must be cut. I also realize it is not cost effective to have a class size of 15-20
