Is your child in need of basic medical or dental care? Remember, schools require physical exams for K, 6th & 9th grades, and dental exams for K, 2nd, & 6th grades! The Care Mobile provides free basic medical and dental care to uninsured or underinsured children ages 0 to 18 who need care. -July 22, 2013 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Medical Day -July 23, 2013 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dental Day McDonalds Restaurant, 207 N Galena, Dixon Medical and dental visits will be available by appointment. This is a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL service. Some of the services provided are immunizations, physicals, well-child exams, dental screenings, cleanings, fluoride treatments and basic dental restorative work. For more information about the Care Mobile, call 815-971-5810. We can also help you and your family to access health insurance through Medicaid or All Kids if you qualify. Present: Vanessa Ankney, Teresa Naill, Tina Adcock, Kara Newcomer, Mariann Biggs, Diana Morley, Candace Buikema, Carol Mathewson, Kathy Morrison, Hele Babin, Carol Jimenez, Sue Johnson, Darla Foulker, Derek Diedrichs, Linda Gieson, Stacie McCullough, Brigitte Renkes, Jeff Gould, Ben Kratzner, Nikki Kratzner, Cindy Frey Treasurer’s Report: All schools did well with the fundraiser. Raising about $20,000 for field trips and other events. Secretaries Report: Minutes are posted on the Dixon PTO Facebook page and on the DPS website. To view the minutes go to Facebook and Like Dixon PTO or go to www.dixonschools.org under “Parents” then click “Parent news and information.” Principals’ Reports: Ms. Johnson: Attendance was down slightly for the Young Authors recognition ceremony due to other events in the area. 3 winners from our district will read for the School Board at their next meeting. Mr. Gould: Nothing at this time. Old Business Leydig Center Meal: Cindy Frey, Derek Diedrichs, Darla Foulker Spring Teacher Appreciation Luncheon: Will be Tuesday, May 7th for all schools. Schools will notify their PTO representative if this needs to change. PTO representatives will contact parents for donations of side dishes. PTO will provide sandwiches and chips. 8th Grade Promotion Dance: Is May 31st from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the RMS cafeteria. The theme that the students chose is “Dukes & Duchesses.” Students are encouraged to dress to represent this theme. The dance committee is selling “Class of 2017” t-shirts for $10 each. Extra Pizzas from fundraiser: Derek Diedrichs suggested that we donate the extra pizzas to the Leydig Center for the May meal. The PTO provides one meal a month to the Leydig Center volunteers. New Business: Requests: Requests from teachers will be presented at the meeting. The PTO members will discuss the request and ask questions. The vote will take place at the next PTO meeting. This policy applies to all requests except field trips and urgent matters. Counting Money: Due to recent events in our community, we would like to clarify our procedure for handling money. All money is sent to one school. No one takes money home. Multiple volunteers/people count the money. Once the money is deposited, PTO only has access through the school district. Spirit Wear: Spring spirit wear offered is t-shirts and zip-up hoodies. The form has been sent home. Meeting day and time for 2013-2014: After some discussion, it was decided to keep PTO meeting on every third Monday at 7 p.m. If there is a holiday, the meeting will be moved to the 2nd Monday. PTO 2013/2014 Officer Nominations: If you are interested in being a PTO officer next year, please come to our next meeting. We will announce nominees, discuss and vote at that time. All current officers will not be offended by others wanting to try their hand as an officer. We are also willing to guide new officers through their first year. Officer positions are: President/Co-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other PTO positions are: Fundraiser coordinator, Washington representative, Lincoln representative, Jefferson representative, and Reagan representative. This year there were 2 reps per school. It has also been suggested that we have a PTO member attend Board meetings and report back. Teacher Requests: Mrs. Mathewson—4th grade is requesting $400 to have Birds of Prey presentation to come to Jefferson. This will enhance the Birds of Prey unit where the students study different birds and examine owl pellets. Unanimously approved --Requesting volunteers to help during the Book Fair at Jefferson on Monday, Thursday, and Friday during the week of April 8-12. Contact Jefferson if you are able to help. Ms. Johnson—Lincoln school is requesting $2463.42 to cover half to cost of a new sound system. The Partnership has offered to cover the other half. This request was originally presented in December. We waited to find out how much, if any, the Partnership would fund before the PTO voted. Unanimously approved --Mad Cap Puppet Theater: Ms. Johnson is presenting a request to pay $765 for this play/performance to be performed during the 2013-2014 school year. She is waiting to hear from the Partnership before finalizing this request. Further information will be available at our next meeting. Mrs. Renkes—Requesting a total of $5000 to help pay for buses and fees for the 8th grade field trip to Springfield on May 21st. This request is an increase in the original request (which was approved) because there was an increase in the fee for buses. Principals’ Reports:

Mr. Rick: Last day of school is now June 10th. It has not been determined whether this will be a full day, half day, or just report card pick up. Notification will be sent when this is determined. High school graduation remain June 1st. 8th grade promotion is now Monday, June 10th. 8th grade promotion dance will remain on May 31st.

Ms. Johnson: Kudos to Lincoln paraprofessionals for running the childcare during the strike. They provided a welcoming and entertaining environment for the children. Lincoln students will sing during the Board of Education meeting on March 20th.

Old Business

Leydig Center Meal: Teresa Naill, Sue Johnson, Diana Morley, Marce Piller

Spring Fundraiser: Pick up is Wednesday, March 20 2-6 p.m. at Jefferson gym. Students sold 2874 boxes of Fannie Mae candy and 5423 pizzas raising $25,216. Members approved $50 to Marce Piller to purchase pizza and pop for volunteers on the night of fundraiser pick up.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon: Teachers will discuss possible dates during the week of May 6-10 and give the possible dates to their school representative.

8th Grade Dance Committee: Next meeting is April 8th 7 p.m. in the RMS library. Students will vote on a theme March 22nd. Permission forms are available in the RMS office for those that need one.

New Business:

PTO 2013/2014 Officer Nominations: If you are interested in being a PTO officer next year, please come to our next meeting. We will announce nominees, discuss and vote at that time. Open Discussion:

Text book availability—Derek Diedrichs asked principals what was being done about the shortage of textbooks that was brought up during the teacher strike. Principals explained that lines of communication are open between teachers and administrators and curriculum committee is discussing options for new common core books. Common Core curriculum is being implemented. This process will take some time to find curriculum and books that meet the needs of DPS students.
