Response to Intervention Print

Recent changes in federal and state laws have directed schools to focus more on helping children learn by intervening early when children are struggling academically or behaviorally, within the general education setting.

These new changes emphasize the importance of providing high quality, scientifically-based instruction and interventions, and hold schools accountable for the adequate yearly progress of all students.

RtI is a general education process of providing high quality, scientifically based instructional practices that are matched with learner needs and monitored on a frequent basis. The goal of RtI is to provide students with the help they need to be successful as early as possible in their school career.

The Dixon Public School District  has developed a three-tier RtI model of interventions that will provide academic support at all levels.

The goal of RtI is not to refer students for special education services, however students who are shown to be non-responsive to tiered interventions may be referred for a special education evaluation.

If at any time parents believe their child has an educational disability and needs special education, they have a right to request an evaluation for special education.

For more information about RtI, special education, or your rights in the process, please contact Mrs. Corena Steinmeyer, Student Services, at (815) 284-7722, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or your child's principal.
