Federal Ethnicity Standards Print
Tuesday, April 06 2010 13:23

Fall Registration for Dixon Public Schools will be Friday, August 6, 2010 from 8a.m-3p.m. and Monday, August 9, 2010 from 11a.m.-6p.m.  Students in Pre-K to 8th grade will register at Reagan Middle School on these days.  Students in high school (grades 9-12) will register at Dixon High School on these days.

During Fall registration you will be asked to re-identify your child’s ethnicity and race.  This is a new requirement by the State of Illinois in order to comply with new federal standards.  This information will be used in reporting aggregate data to the U.S. Department of Education. You will be asked to choose one of the following ethnicities–Hispanic/ Latino or Non-Hispanic.

If you select Non-Hispanic, you will be asked to choose one of the following races:
White, Black or African American, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, American Indian or Native Alaskan or two or more races.

Listed below is a description of the ethnicities and races in hopes it will aid you on your decision.:
Hispanic/Latino:    A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
White:    A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.
Black or African Americans:  A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.
Asian:     A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia or the
Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand and Vietnam.
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Island:  A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.
American Indian or Alaska Native:  A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North or South America, including Central America, and who maintain tribal affiliation or community attachment.
Two or more races (formerly Multi-racial):  A person having origins in more than one race.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Dixon Public School Central Office at 284-7722 and ask for Margo Empen or Dianne Frye.
