Dixon Elementary PTO
Meeting Minutes: Monday, August 30, 2010
7:00 p.m. ~ Washington School Library

Members in Attendance:    Mr. Jeff Gould, Mr. Dave Suarez, Mr. Dan Rick, Vanessa Ankney, Kristie South, Brenda Drezen, Marce Piller, Mandy Dallas, Nikki Kratzner, Marianne Biggs, Diana Morley, Brenda Brown, Stacie McCullough, Angela Harrison, Teresa Naill, Stephanie Lovett, Jodi Kelly, Alice Shafer, Nikki Lovett, Carol Jimenez, Angie Ortgiesen, Erin Godbold, Rhonda Drew, Katherine Shuey, Amanda Thomas and Kim Munson.

PTO Minutes will be available only on the district website (www.dixonschools.org) from now on.

The Treasurer’s report was approved as written.

All three principals welcomed parents back and invited us to stop in at any of the schools at anytime.
We discussed the practice of distributing Christmas books to students each year.  This is an expense of $1,500 - $2,000 for all students in grades Pre-K through 5th grades.  We decided to not give out books this year.  We will discuss this issue again in the spring (after we have determined the profits from the Fall & Spring fundraisers), in order to plan for the possibility of Christmas books for the 2011 – 2012 school year.

PTO will give each Pre-K through 5th grade teacher $50 start-up cash.  Vote passed unanimously.

Spirit Wear orders will be placed early this fall.  The adult and children’s sizes have different logos.  However, to accommodate all students, adult sizes with the child’s logo may be ordered for children.

PTO will again provide a Teacher’s Luncheon, during Parent-Teacher conferences, on Thursday 10/7.  Food should be brought to schools by 10:00 a.m.  Parent volunteers will be contacted to bring desserts and salads.  Sandwiches and condiments will be ordered from Oliver’s.  Eight of each will be needed for all 3 elementary schools.

In order to fairly accommodate teacher requests, in an equitable manner at all three schools, we set the following procedures.  Teachers are asked to bring monetary requests to the PTO meeting the month before they are needed.  We will no longer take phone votes on emergency requests, as it’s too difficult to get a fair vote with people’s busy schedules.  Please send a grade-level representative to the PTO meeting to discuss each request.

Fall pictures will be on Thursday, 9/23.  Parent volunteers will be contacted to help.  We will need 4 volunteers each at Washington & Lincoln, and 2 volunteers at Jefferson.

Our fall fundraiser will feature 2 products: Butterbraids and coffee.  Orders will begin in early October.

The Jefferson book fair was the week of 8/30 – 9/3.

Washington’s Book Fair will be 9/13 – 9/17.  Parent volunteers are needed during each school day and in the evening on Tuesday, 9/14 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (This evening is during Washington’s Back-to-School Night.)

The 2nd and 3rd grade teachers requested $1,675 for a Dome Theater Spring Family Event for both grades.  Request was postponed due to the current poor local economic outlook.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, September 20th, at 7:00 p.m., in the Washington School library.  All other meetings for the 2010 -2011 school year will be as follows: 10/18, 11/15, 1/10, 2/21, 3/14, 4/18 and 5/16.
