Dixon Elementary PTO
Meeting Minutes
Monday, March 14, 2011
7:00pm – Washington School Library

Members in attendance:  Vanessa Ankney, Brenda Brown, Ben Kratzner, Marianne Biggs, Karen Lonkert, Mrs. Sue Johnson, Mr. David Suarez, Mr. Jeff Gould, Mr. Dan Rick, Phyllis Houck, Danielle Simpson, Kristie South, Julie Kruger, Carol Mathewson, Jennifer Johnston, Marce Piller and Diana Morley.

The secretary’s report from February 2011 was approved.

The treasurer’s report was approved as written.
Mr. Rick reported that the play was a huge success.  This play was sponsored by the Partnership grant this year rather than PTO as it has been in the past.  Many students never get the opportunity to attend this type of presentation, and they all enjoyed it.

After Fall spirit wear we had decided to do spirit wear twice a year rather than once with long sleeve t-shirts and hoodies being sold in the fall and t-shirts and zip-up hoodies being sold in the spring.  Since we sold all products this past fall it was agreed that we will hold off and have another spirit wear sale until next fall.

Spring pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 30th.  Each school will need 2 or 3 volunteers for this event.

The Spring Teacher’s Luncheon will be held on Friday, May 6th.  The principals have agreed to have the pop machines open.  Vanessa Ankney will order sandwiches from Oliver’s and the social chairs will contact volunteers for the other food items.

We will vote on officers for the 2011-2012 school year at our April meeting.  Please let anyone that may be interested in running for an office.  They should attend this meeting if they are interested.

Our spring fundraiser is Roma Villa pizzas.  They are 12 inch pizzas and sell for $6 each.  Order forms will go home on Wednesday, March 30th and be due back on April 13th with ALL MONEY.  Pick-up/Delivery will be on Thursday, May 5th from 2pm-6pm at Jefferson school.  Marce will need 8-10 volunteers.

Ms. Houck reported that the teachers at Lincoln School will be holding a bake sale on Tuesday evening during the Science program.  The bake sale funds will be used for Shining Star.

Ms. Houck, on behalf of the 3rd grade teachers, requested $1930 for the 3rd grade field trip.  They will be going to Midway Village in Rockford.  Everyone present voted yes to fund this field trip.
Ms. Houck reported that last year the PTO bought books to be handed out to students after the Discovery Center Night in May.  She reported she still has approximately 100 books but needs to order another $200 worth to have enough for this year’s Discovery Center Night.  Everyone present voted yes to purchase the books.  She will order the books and submit a receipt for payment.

Mrs. Mathewson requested $445.75 to purchase owl pellets for the 4th grade students.  Everyone present voted yes to fund this project.  She also said that the owl presentation PTO previously voted to fund will take place on April 15th.  The cost of that event is $400.

Mrs. Simpson, on behalf of the 2nd grade teachers, requested $2296 for the 2nd grade field trip.  They will be going to the Burpee Museum in Rockford, IL on April 18th and 19th.  They have a dinosaur unit that will go well with the dinosaur display currently going on at the museum.  Everyone present voted yes to fund this field trip.

The next Dixon Elementary PTO meeting will be on Monday, April 18th at 7pm in the Washington School Library.

Respectfully Submitted,
Vanessa Ankney
