h1n1 Parent Letter Print
Parents and Guardians,

This letter is to inform parents of our plan on addressing the H1N1 virus. This is a tentative plan and can change depending on how
the virus affects our schools and community. We have been working closely with the Lee County Health Department to come up
with a plan that will best protect our children from the H1N1 virus.

The first part of our H1N1 plan is EDUCATION of students, staff and parents. Please see the accompanying material to better
educate you and your family on how to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.

Dixon Public Schools is encouraging the following:
1. The 3 C's:
  • Clean- clean your hands. Everyone needs to wash their hands frequently with warm water and soap. If water and soap is not available, please use hand sanitizer.
  • Cover- cover your cough and sneezes in a Kleenex or elbow.
  • Contain- contain the illness by staying home from school or work if you have flu symptoms and a fever over 100 degrees. You must be fever free for 24 hours without medication in order to return to school.
The second part of our plan is PREVENTION:

The Center for Disease Control recommends everyone get vaccinated each year with the regular flu vaccine. The seasonal flu
vaccination will not build resistance to H1N1 therefore, it is important to receive the H1N1 vaccination in addition to the regular flu
vaccine. Dixon Public Schools will be offering H1N1 vaccines to all students pre k - 12th grade. Dates for the vaccination clinic are
not known at this time. Below is some information on the H1N1 vaccine we will be offering to our students:
  1. These shots will be completely optional, this is a service offered, not a requirement.
  2. Parents will be receiving a packet of information including a permission form permitting the Lee County Health Department to administer the vaccine.
  3. The vaccine will be free of charge.
We are encouraging everyone to please read the informational sheets provided on our website for more information. Below is some
additional websites on H1N1:

website, so please check our website frequently for any new information.
