Allen Attends Conference Print
Tuesday, April 06 2010 13:21
Conner Allen, a freshman at Dixon High School, recently attended the National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLC) in Chicago.  The NYLC is designed to instruct and enrich promising students in a hands-on experimental atmosphere while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership.  NYLC offers students the opportunity to discuss current events and issues, solve problems and lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an environment far from the traditional classroom.
At the conference, students were assigned to different committees.  Conner had the opportunity to serve on the Press Club committee, which wrote and published a newsletter that was sent to 150 students in attendance.
“Listening to other peoples ideas and not just your own” was one of the most important skills that Conner learned from the conference.
Allen was nominated to attend the conference last year, by his eighth grade Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Kitzman. At DHS, he is involved in the Key Club, bowling  and baseball.

Dixon Public Schools, in cooperation with the community, will provide students with a comprehensive educational program that produces well-educated, self-sufficient, and involved citizens.
