Student Council Food Drive Print
Written by A. Eddy

DHS Student Council is sponsoring a canned food drive the week of November 16th - 20th, 2009.

Students are to bring in non-perishable goods to their 1st hour class.  All of the food is delivered right here in Dixon to the food pantry.  We will collect the food on Friday, November 20th and the class with the most items per capita will win the contest.  The winning class will be announced on the following Monday and will receive donuts and juice as a reward.  Student council receives and donates approximately 1000 items each year.

Student council is a school-run organization that is open to all DHS students.  It is a student government body.  We have an officers' meeting every Monday morning and a council meeting every Wednesday morning.

We organize various activities throughout the year.  Two of our biggest activities are putting on Homecoming in the fall and the Sadie Hawkins Dance in the spring.  Another activity that Student Council hosts is a dodgeball tournament as a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.

We sponsor at least two blood drives a year, a canned food drive in November, a mitten tree drive in December, and various other fundraisers through the school year.

At the end of the year we will hold the Mr. School contest for students who meet and/or exceed on the PSAE test.  The last two years we have donated a laptop computer to DHS to be given away as raffle prizes in this contest.

Dixon Public Schools, in cooperation with the community, will provide students with a comprehensive educational program that produces well-educated, self-sufficient, and involved citizens.
