Thought for the Day: You can’t change the past, but you can ruin a perfectly good present by worrying about the future.

1. PARIS: Spring Break 2013 - Mr. Padilla is organizing a student trip to Paris, France for next Spring Break, March 25- April 1, 2013. Please come to Room 405 for more details if you are interested!

2. Seniors – Sauk Valley College will be at DHS on Tuesday, May 1st to register students for next year. You must sign up for an appointment in the G.O.

3. Freshmen – T-shirt orders are due to Alex Helander, Matt Sanders or Allison Newman by Friday.

4. A $500 scholarship is available in the GO for seniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher. The Ray Thompson Scholarship will be awarded to a senior who will be enrolled part-time or full-time at a 2-year, 4-year, or trade school. Preference will be given to students who show financial need and archery knowledge. 

5. KSB Hospital is offering area high school students an opportunity to gain work experience and serve their community  through their Summer Volunteer Program. Interested students should  go to  www.ksbhospital.com/juniorvolunteer/ for an application.

6. The Dixon Lioness Club is sponsoring a scholarship for a senior who plans to major in Special Education. The scholarship is for $1000. Applications are available online and are due April 28th.

7. Order your 2012 yearbook today. Yearbooks will be delivered next month. See Mrs. Bally as soon as possible.

8. Prom Court nominations are in the office. Table sign-up is outside the band room. Both will be collected Friday after school. Anyone who has not signed up for a table will be assigned Friday afternoon.

9. Dixon High School will be piloting a Student Portal view in Lumen from now until the end of the school year.  Students will now be able to access your own grades/assignments, fees, attendance, and transcript info.  This will allow you the opportunity to check your information at anytime with a read-only view. Students may talk with teachers or counselors for access information of your account.

10.The Eleanor Lessner Memorial Scholarship deadline has been extended to Monday, April 23rd. To honor the memory of Eleanor Lessner,  a scholarship is being provided to a deserving Dixon High School senior to help with freshman year, college education costs. The student must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be majoring in Business or Business Education. Preference will be given to students attending Sauk Valley Community College. Applications are available online or see Mrs. Ebert in the GO.

11.Summer School will be offered June 8 through June 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If enough students sign up, classes will be offered in Algebra 1, English and APEX classes. The cost is $110.00 per class. There will be no waiver of fees. Money must be turned in with applications. Forms are in the Guidance Office.

12.Western Illinois University will have a representative in the Guidance Office on Friday at 9:00. Interested students should sign up in the G.O.

13.The Lee County Republican Central Committee is offering a scholarship to a student who has been involved in public service and civic affairs and will be enrolled as a full-time student in college. Applications are on the school’s website.

14.Who will wear the crown? The Mr. School competition is Friday, May 11th. If you are interested in competing for this acclaimed crown, see Mr. Eddy in room 305. There are only so many spots, so sign up now! 

15.If you are interested in running for a Student Council officer position, see Mr. Eddy in room 305 for a petition. Signed petitions are due to Mr. Eddy by Friday, April 27th.

16.This Week's BLIND Asset #1: FAMILY SUPPORT: Family life provides high levels of love and support. Learn more about the Assets program on the bulletin board by Mr. Clark's room, or come to the BLIND meetings Thursday morning at 7:15 am in Room 405.

17.The DHS Softball team is selling wrist bands to show support for Sarah Schnake and her family. “Sarah’s Fight Club” wrist bands are $10 each and are available in the main office or from a softball player.
