Thought for the Day: Some people are like tea bags – you don’t know how strong they are until they’re in hot water.

1. You may not think of yourself as the answer to someone’s prayer, but every time you donate blood, you are. Every time you donate blood, you help save a person’s life – a mother, a child, a brother. There is no bigger difference you can make in a person’s life than giving them life itself. The hour it takes you to give blood could even save up to three lives. The DHS blood drive is Thursday, October 21st. Please sign up in the nurse’s office. You will NOT be able to sign up to donate the day of the blood drive. All donors must sign up by Tuesday, October 19th. We need all the donors we can get.

2. Students are reminded – NOTHING is to be taped to the wall above your lockers!

3. There will be a mandatory Boys’ Basketball sign up meeting on Friday, October 22nd at 2:25 in Mr. Porter’s room 121. Any boy grade 9-12 who is interested in playing basketball this year should plan to attend.

4. Anyone interested in wrestling should stop by the athletic director's office to sign up and get the information handed out at the meeting.

5. Congratulations to Mrs. Bennett and Ben Dvorak, winners of the Dixon Pride Spirit Award this week. Remember to nominate students and staff you see go above and beyond for DHS.

6. BLIND officers and class representatives – There is ameeting of the BLIND executive board Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m. in Mr. Padilla’s room, 403. Have fun with those stairs!

7. There is a scholarship for a senior who is in the top 1/3 of their class and planning to major in education. Go to www.illinoispta.org for an application.

8. Congratulations to Mitch Homb, this year’s Class 2A Golf Champ!

9. Congratulations to Jennifer Guenther and Mandy Kent for advancing to this weekend’s Girl’s State Tennis Tournament!

10. Congratulations to the Girl’s and Boy’s Cross County Teams. The girls are Conference Champs and the boy’s placed second.

11. On Wednesday, October 20th, from 7-8 p.m., DHS students of Mr. Padilla’s classes will present information about the aspects of the The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe at the Dixon Public Library. See you there!

Dixon Public Schools, in cooperation with the community, will provide students with a comprehensive educational program that produces well-educated, self-sufficient, and involved citizens.
