Jefferson Music Performance Print
Tuesday, December 14 2010 14:13

The music department at Jefferson Elementary has changed significantly since 5th grade merged with 4th.  Jefferson's music teacher, Mrs. Schuldt, has been appointed Begining Band Director this year and now spends the entire day at Jefferson with the 4th and 5th grade classes.  On December 21, starting at 1:15, the entire school will meet in the gym at Jefferson School.  The 5th graders will play their recorders for the school.  Songs that will be performed on recorder are "Ding Dong Merrily", "Little Drummer B-A-G", and "Greensleeves". After they are finished, we will then have an all-school carol sing.  Words to carols will be projected for all to see and Mrs. Schuldt will accompany on piano. Sme songs that might be sung for the all-school caroling are "Jingle Bells", "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", "Deck the Halls", and "Frosty the Snowman", among others.

To get prepared for this performance, the 5th graders have been working on their songs in music class.  Mrs. Schuldt and her students started practicing the pieces right after students returned from Thanksgiving break.  A lot of hard work goes into the process of preparing for a school-wide performance.  Mrs. Schuldt hands out the song sheets; students review recorder finger placement and practice singing and playing the music as they are READING from the music song sheets.  Mrs. Schuldt then has the classes play along with piano.  Once the students have practiced and worked any bugs out and are comfortable with their parts, Mrs. Schuldt plays the performance cd for them to listen to as they follow along on their recorders with their fingers.  Finally, the students play their recorders along with the cd.  Of course, practice is the key to performance!

Mrs. Schuldt says "I am so excited for the chance to make music together as a school and make some new memories.  What a great way to end the year and begin our break!"

Dixon Public Schools, in cooperation with the community, will provide students with a comprehensive educational program that produces well-educated, self-sufficient, and involved citizens.
