Jefferson Receives ExxonMobil Grant Print
Written by J. Gould

Jefferson Elementary School staff would like to express our sincere thanks to the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program and Kelley Williamson Company’s, Dixon Mart in Dixon, Illinois for their contribution of a $500.00 grant to Jefferson Elementary School.

The ExxonMobil Grant will be used to assist in the enhancement of science and mathematics programs to meet the needs of our students.  Science and mathematics upgrades will allow for improved instruction for our students.  As many are aware academic demands continue to increase at a rapid pace for all students.  Recent financial hardships within public schools systems throughout the country have made meeting these demands more difficult than ever.  This generous contribution will bring us one step closer to providing our students with the most current advances in the science and mathematics realm that they deserve.

Thank you for investing in our children and in the future of education.

On Thursday, October 27th, Lincoln School's gym was taken over by Medieval Times. Lincoln School hosted another Family Fun Night put on by the Discovery Center of Rockford. Science Guy, Christopher Bernd, provided an assortment of Medieval Science activities for students and their parents to participate in.

Students launched a variety of catapults, constructed a castle, swung a sword, tested the strength of a knight's armor, and much more as they took a trip back in time and explored the science of long ago! We had 110 students with their parents attend this fun filled night. There were raffles for both students and their parents, so both young and old were able to try for a chance to win some great prizes. Lincoln School is proud to host these Family Fun Nights, and will be hosting another one in April.  If you were not able to attend this one, you can try for the one in the spring! More fun SCIENCE to come!

Leydig Center Donation Print

Lincoln Elementary School Principal, Ms.  Susan Johnson, accepts a check for $2500 from the Leydig Center. Mr. Gene Lemme, president of the Leydig board, is shown presenting the check to Ms. Johnson.
This generous donation to Lincoln Elementary School will help to support after school academic enrichment opportunities and to provide rewards for positive behaviors.
The Leydig Center is a distribution center for gently used items and is located on Warp Rd. The Leydig Center accepts donations and then sells the items. The funds raised help support outreach and community organizations.  Mr. Lemme states, "The Leydig Center believes in giving back to the community and supports projects that help students."  Many Leydig volunteers are retired teachers so they understand the many challenges school districts face when giving parents the tools to help their children succeed in school.
Dixon Public Schools and Lincoln School staff wish to thank the Leydig Center for their contribution. To learn more or to become a volunteer, or to give a donation, please call Lincoln School at 815-284-7726.

2011 Architectural Tour Print

The fourth grade students at Jefferson School had the opportunity to take a tour of downtown Dixon on September 20th and September 21st.  Dixon Main Street sponsored the tour for the students.  We started at the Public Safety building and walked 2.5 miles around the town.  Some of the stops included the Nachusa House, the Arch, Court House, Wings of Peace, Historic Center, and Waterfront.  At each monument or building, the students heard some dialogue about the architect, design, or other points of interest.  The students were then asked to make a model, draw a picture or write a short essay with regard to the monument or building.  We ended the field trip with a delicious lunch provided free of charge from Mama Cimino’s.  A very big thank you to the Dixon Main Street Committee and Mama Cimino’s Pizza.
