Mrs. Morse's class had a spectacular treat on Friday, May 3rd from the Next Picture Show's featured artists, Mr. and Mrs. Allen.  The Boss Family donated a private, professional art lesson with a pizza party included!  The party started out with the students viewing different types of African Spirit Masks and then they created their own and proudly displayed their projects. The key to the African Spirit Masks was allowing for symmetry and big patterns, but not forgetting their "Picasso side!" The students were thrilled with the results and smiles were painted on everyone's face.

On Friday, April 19th Jefferson Schools 5th graders went to the 4-H center in Amboy,IL for Agriculture Day. We went  to different stations where we learned about farming. At one of the stations, we  experienced shaving a sheep. We  learned what to do in 4-H. Our group was able to make lip balm out of bees wax and soybean oil. At the DelMonte station we learned about different types of crops and received free treats and seeds to plant at home. Our class wants to do a shout out to all the volunteers who helped us learn about agriculture.

This month’s K-kids theme is Setting and Maintaining a Good Attitude toward School.  We made Valentine cards for the residents at the Dixon Health Care Center.  The K-kids also designed a new bulletin board.  Our members will be holding a supply drive February 11 – 15 for the teachers at Jefferson School.  We decorated and place a barrel outside the office for these supplies.  Our next K-kids meeting will be on Feb. 20th.

Jefferson Math-A-Thon a success! Print

Fourth and fifth grade students at Jefferson School recently participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Math-A-Thon program and raised $4,372 to help kids battling cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.  That was nearly double what was raised last year. Through the Math-A-Thon program, students not only build and practice essential math skills covered in the state standardized tests, they also learn that even as kids they can make a positive difference in the lives of others.

We are so proud of our students for embracing Math-A-Thon and raising critical funds for St. Jude.  Every dollar raised will help support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving the lives of children in communities around the world.  Thank you to the students, staff, and Dixon community for being so generous during the holiday season.
