The K-Kids are a group of 4th and 5th grade students trying to clean and help the environment grow into a wonderful place to live in and enjoy.   The K-Kids first official meeting was in September 2011.  During our first meetings we elected officers and became acquainted with our club members.  Our officers this year were:  Juliana Rotella - President, Madison Gaulke - Vice-President, Bethany Tschosik - Treasurer, Emily Tribley and Madisyn Rubright - Reporters.
Each month we had a different theme that we worked on.  Our November theme was Showing Thanks to People We Care About.  We made beautiful posters full of compliments and put them on all of the teachers doors to show them that they are special.  We also arranged for a massage therapist to give all the teachers massages.  Our December theme was Being Generous to Others.  We held a canned food drive and donated 25 cases of food to the local food pantry.  In January our theme was Keeping Healthy so We Can Help others.  We invited Kara Grobe from KSB  to speak to our club about making healthy food choices.  We even made up a Healthy song!  In February our theme was Setting and Maintaining a Good Attitude Toward School.  We had the NED Show come to our school.  NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.  Then we sold yoyo's to pay it forward for the next school, we raised $2800.00.  Our March theme was Improving Our Relationships with Friends and Family.  We worked on being kind and going out of our way to do something nice for others.  We also held a book drive and donated the books to Henryville Indiana where a tornado took the school.  In April our theme was Cleaning up and Improving the Environment.  We cleaned up the Regan Home and  we also went in the back of Jefferson School and picked up any trash that we saw, we had 50 bags!  In our last month of May, we are Trying to Bring Small Rays of Sunshine into People's Lives.  The K-Kids have written kind words of thanks to our teachers, we will read them over the intercom system every morning during teacher appreciation week.  We also donated books to first grade students at Washington, so the kids can have a new book to read over the summer!   Coming up we are going to the River Front to pull weeds and plant flowers, then we are having a pizza party!
These are all of the themes that the K-Kids have been working on.  We try to follow them, even if someone is being mean, the K-Kids forgive them and still try their best to be as sweet and as nice as we can!
Next year there will be new officers and new projects!  One of the projects that the K-Kids will be involved in next year is painting the playground in the back of Jefferson School!  We are very excited to help improve the beauty of our school!  So keep your eyes peeled because there will be some awesome change in our neighborhoods and schools because of these 4th and 5th grade students.  We are trying to make the world a better place in which to live!!
