RMS P.R. Report
Person submitting (name and title):
Brigitte Renkes, 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher and Builder’s Club Advisor

Date of Project : October 2012
Grade and Class: Reagan Middle School Builder’s Club, involving 6th through 8th grade students
Participants:  Reagan Middle School Builder’s Club, involving 6th through 8th grade students

Description of project:
The Reagan Middle School Builder’s Club helped out three different organizations during the month of October. On October 26th, students attending the RMS Halloween Dance brought donations for the Dixon Food Pantry as part of their entrance fee to the dance. At the dance, the Builder’s Club was able to collect eight full boxes of food to donate to the food pantry. During the week of Halloween, members made and sold over 350 ghost pops during lunch hours raising $181 for the local United Way. Money donated to the United Way will help organizations in our own community. On Halloween, members went Trick or Treating for UNICEF in order to raise money for The Eliminate Project, in which Kiwanis raise money to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. The students and staff at RMS were quite generous as the Builder’s Club was able to collect $158 to help UNICEF help children. The money collected for The Eliminate Project will save or protect almost 100 lives! The Reagan Middle School Builder’s Club members are dedicated to helping causes throughout the community. If your organization needs help with a project or event, please contact Brigitte Renkes at Reagan Middle School.

Officer Quadraro

Students in Reagan Middle School’s eighth grade Social Studies classes are currently studying government. During the course of this unit students learn about state and federal governments. In this particular exercise, students are focused on the 4th and 5th Amendment. Officer Quadraro can be seen leading the class through a question and answer session. This is the second year the eighth grade Social Studies department has worked with Officer Quadraro in the classroom during this unit. The Social Studies department hopes that bringing in an officer can show students how the laws they learn about in class are applied to real life situations.
