Jefferson Math-A-Thon a success! Print

Fourth and fifth grade students at Jefferson School recently participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Math-A-Thon program and raised $4,372 to help kids battling cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.  That was nearly double what was raised last year. Through the Math-A-Thon program, students not only build and practice essential math skills covered in the state standardized tests, they also learn that even as kids they can make a positive difference in the lives of others.

We are so proud of our students for embracing Math-A-Thon and raising critical funds for St. Jude.  Every dollar raised will help support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving the lives of children in communities around the world.  Thank you to the students, staff, and Dixon community for being so generous during the holiday season.

RMS brings Christmas treats to local nursing homes Print

The 7th grade students at Reagan Middle School took an opportunity this season to practice acts of kindness.  Students brought in treats for goodie bags to be shared with local nursing homes.  In addition, students made reindeer candy canes to tie onto the bags.

On Wednesday, December 19, these bags were delivered to the Lee County Nursing Home and Heritage Square, both in Dixon.  All 7th grade students participated in some way:  making the reindeer, bringing in treats, decorating and filling the bags, delivering the bags to local nursing home residents.  This service project was a great way to change the focus of Christmas from the gifts received to reaching out to others who may be feeling lonely.

Jefferson Elementary 2013 Spelling Bee

Between January 3rd and January 23rd, each classroom will conduct individual Spelling Bees to determine the top 2 spellers for their class.  Between January 23rd and January 28th, the top spellers (30) will continue on to round 2, which is a written spelling test.  Various before school, after school, and lunch recess times will be offered to accommodate students. The top 15 spellers and 5 alternates will advance on to the official 2013 Jefferson Spelling Bee. On February 4th, those 15 spellers and alternates will meet in the Library at 7:15 a.m. for Bee practice.  They will meet once more, on February 5th at 7:15 a.m., to practice.  This time the spellers will practice on the Jefferson stage.

On February 6th, spellers and alternates will meet on the stage at 7:30 a.m. to determine which alternates, if any, will need to participate in the official 2013 Jefferson Spelling Bee, which will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 1:00 p.m. in the gym!

Wednesday morning, December 19th, was a wonderfully busy morning for 2nd graders here at Lincoln School. Our performance of the holiday musical "Twinkle & Shine" was viewed by a standing-room only audience of parents and guests, as well as our 3rd graders. Everyone enjoyed the show. The entire 2nd grade class participated and did a wonderful singing, dancing and speaking their parts! It was a great way to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Congratulations!
